BEAUTY

What does beauty mean?

Of course it means being fair as milk! Times are changing, so that’s not how it is everywhere but that’s what it still means in many parts of India. For many Indians fair skin tone is nearly synonymous with beauty. For the longest period in history I let myself believe that it was, in fact, true. I still remember the taunts from my childhood about my dusky skin tone.

beauty-text.jpg

What is it with Indians and fair skin?!

My brain would understand the fascination if the fair skin provided some added advantages such as protection from radiation in case of a holocaust or at the very least, inbuilt UV protection. But as far as my knowledge goes it doesn’t provide any special benefits! Is it because Indians want to copy the foreigners? The sheer variety of fairness creams in the market and advertisements on television show just how many Indians suffer from this fairness syndrome. As if fairness creams for girls wasn’t enough, we have fairness creams for boys as well. Caucasians love to get their skin tanned and we do the opposite. The irony of life!

Of course my confidence was affected because of these skewed concepts of beauty. But there was one person in my family who had a different opinion. My confidence levels would have been different if not for my cousin. She would call me beautiful like Naomi Campbell. After all I was dusky, slim and very tall. Apart from her nobody else seemed to pay any attention to how a simple comment can affect a child’s confidence. I still grew up thinking that maybe I was not good enough.

Years went by,  I went to college, started working, fell in and out of love a couple times, started doing yoga, started meditating, travelled the world, made friends from every part of the world, met all sorts of amazing people and did a fair share of crazy things.

Somewhere along the journey, life — the biggest teacher of them all taught me that I am beautiful, both inside and outside. And nobody in the whole wide world can make me feel otherwise now. I realised that what others think of me mirrored what I thought about myself.

Beauty does not have to be about fair skin, make up or designer clothes. It is about that inner connection with ourselves. It is about being in love with our own amazing self. I realised that if I do not love myself for who I am, how can I expect anyone else to love me? It’s not difficult to see the beauty that lies in every human being. Like the few kind words from my cousin gave me the confidence, a few kind words to the people around us can make a huge difference.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. We just need to learn to see that beauty. I hope that no other kid anywhere gets to feel that they are not beautiful. The world will be a happier place if we can all realise the beautiful souls that we are and not quantify beauty in terms of measures such as skin tone. I wish that, like me, people understand the meaning of true beauty so that they can be the shining stars that they were meant to be!

And “YOU” my dear, the one reading this blog right now, just know that ” YOU are Beautiful! “.  Pay it forward and tell at least one more soul how very beautiful they are. Let’s make this world a better place. What do you say?

Love and Declarations

My love, I do not know how to express the feelings that I have for you, for they are beyond words. “You Complete Me.”

I marvel at the way you respond when my fingers graze your beautiful skin. Oh the things i can make you do with just the tips of my fingers! Magic happens when my fingers move over your body. The pleasure you have given me since the day we met.

Those countless nights we spent together gazing into each others eyes, the movies, having fun, working and doing all sorts of things. You simplify things for me. I can not imagine life without you. I am so used to your extraordinary company that it makes it extremely difficult to bear the masses. For infront of you they are less than ordinary. You are like a shining star in my universe. I wonder how I existed when you were not a part of my life.

Thank you for everything that you have done for me. You have helped me in every sphere of my life. You have given me company in some of the darkest times of my life. You were there for me, when no one else was. And you welcomed me with open arms. You were unassuming and always had a million ways to help me.

I promise you that i will take utmost care of you. I will prevent you from scratches, wear and tear, and i will make sure I charge you properly so that your battery life can be as long as possible. I love you Macbook. THANK YOU!

Big Bang on my Birthday!

So how does it feel to land up in the hospital on your Birthday?

Well, it’s not the best feeling in the world. It turns a bit scary when the doctors tell you that you need surgery. And it becomes a nightmare if you are scared of needles in specific and hospitals in general.

I’ve been wanting to write this post for days, but I wasn’t in the mood. Lying helpless on the bed all day and all night can do that to your state of mind. But today I feel better, mentally  at least (thank god for meditation).

In short I met with an accident, underwent a surgery a few days back. It was painful as hell and I’ve got a couple of screws and plates holding my leg together. Im looking at a recovery time of 3-4 months.

There were times after the accident when I felt like screaming, crying and shouting. I did cry a bit initially. There were times when I felt utterly helpless and I still do at times. Anybody would feel helpless if they couldn’t even go and pee by themselves! My meditations went for a toss. I was getting restless and was not my usual happy cheerful self.

Now the question is what do you do when you are in a situation that is beyond your control?

Being miserable is one option but it’s not the only option. These words of wisdom from a saint , ” Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional” made me stop and think. I realised that there is always something to learn from every situation, something to be grateful for. So why suffer 🙂

This whole bed ridden thing made me realise the value of good health. If you’ve never really been sick like this, you don’t realise what you have. If you are reading this and you are healthy and walking on your own two feet, be grateful. I appreciate good health much more now. And I’ve learned my lesson in road safety as well.

Being helpless also makes you understand that there are interdependencies in this world. You can’t function alone. I am utterly grateful for the good company I keep and for my adorable family.

Luckily the place where I work is closely knit like a family. And each one of them is wonderful and unique in their own way. The way they took care of me before I reached home for the surgery was just phenomenal. I am utterly grateful to God for blessing me with such good company. I hope everyone gets to experience this love. For all you beautiful souls, a heartfelt THANK YOU!

I feel totally blessed to have the family that I have. My brother, cousins, grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles are taking such good care of me. If my parents were alive, I don’t think that they could have done a better job.

Lastly I am grateful that I have a guru who has given me enough intellect to be happy and see the best even in a situation like this. I am grateful that I can meditate and I am grateful that even though im stuck in bed I’m still happy (most of the time).

If you are in a difficult situation just remember that it’s for you to learn something. Pain is inevitable but suffering really is optional 🙂

Love and Blessings for all☺

P.S. : Thank you for your blessings and prayers. Keep them coming 🙂

Janam Din Diyan Mubarakan Lakh Lakh

Today’s post is dedicated to My Boss, My Friend, My Teacher, My Brother.. A little bit of all the above 🙂 Mr. Raghavendra Puranam!!  I am glad to have him in my life. Today on his bday I wanted to write something. And my creativity suddenly chose punjabi as a medium of expression 😉 I have done my best to translate it into hindi though 😛 The one in Hindi is at the end 🙂

“Oh Ji Janam Din Diyan Vadhaiyan”

Mere behnde khyala di kashti

aaj tuhade kinare chali hai,

Asi kiwe dasiye kidaan tuhanu mil k

sadi duniya rangeen ho chali hai,

Kade dost, kade veer, kadi shikshak vang

tuhade pyar da rang badal chaleya hai,

Injh banaya apna tusi sano k

thode gussa vich vi pyar dis chaleya hai.

Pyar inna mileya tuhade to k

asi khushkismat khud nu mande haan,

Sade bhagan vich tuhanu milna likheya

asi rab da shukrana karde haan.

kade kuch keh te zyada chup reh

tusi holi holi dil vich bas gaye ho,

pyar ina k shayar na hunde hoye vi

tusi shayari satho karwa gaye ho.

Janam din diyan mubarakan lakh lakh asi bhaint karde haan,

Tuhanu palka te saja k rakhe rab bas ehio fariyad karde haan.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAGHAV!!!! Lots of Love and Blessings for you 🙂

Happy BDay Raghav!!!

“Oh Ji Janam Din Diyan Mubarakan” ( Changing the title to hindi won’t do it justice 😉 Im gonna let this be)

Mere behte khayalon ki kashti

aaj aapke kinare chali hai,

Kya bataye kaise aapko milkar

meri duniya rangeen ho chali hai,

Kabhi dost, kabhi bhai to kabhi shikshak jaise

aapke pyar ka rang badalta hai,

Aise banaya apna aapne k ab to

aapke gusse mein bhi pyar dikhne lagta hai.

Pyar itna mila aapse k hum

khushkismat khud ko mante hain,

Hamare bhagya mein aapko milna likha

hum rab ka shukrana karte hain.

Kabhi kuch keh, aur zyada chup reh

aap haule haule dil mein bas gaye ho,

pyar itna k shayar na hoke bhi

aap shayari humse karwa gaye ho.

Janam din ki mubarakbad lakh lakh aapko bhaint karte hain,

Aapko palkoon pe saja  k rakhe rab bas yahi fariyad karte hain.

At Times

Im an amateur when it comes to writing. But I love writing nonetheless. This was my very first and quite child like attempt at poetry ☺ It was written about 8-9 years back. I finally thought it should see the light of day 🙂

At times Im merry
Everything around me so cheery

At times Im sad
And my mood is really bad

At times Im bizarre
Whatever happens I don’t care

At times Im haughty
And at others Im naughty

At times I wonder
Why do I have so many questions to ponder?

At times I feel empty inside
And I wish God would be on my side

At times I want my life to be pleasant like a song
But something here and there keeps going wrong

At times Im really confused
And my mind gets almost fused

At times I want to fly
And just touch the silver sky

At times I question “why me?”
And what went wrong Im unable to see

At times I spend a lot
And I wonder whether I’ll earn that much or not?

At times I cry
Wondering why people don’t give understanding me a try?

At times Im with Santa Claus 🎅 , in my fairy land
In those blue skies, green fields and the beaches near the lovely sand

At times at the top of my lungs I want to shout
And let these for long kept inside feelings out

At times I really miss my mom
And my heart yearns for things to be normal back home

But in the end I think it’s not just me
There are times when you’ve all felt just like me

There have been times when I was sad or in doubt
But I really really REALLY love the way my life has turned out

Vasudeva Kutumbhakam : One World Family!

Vasudev Kutumbhakam was just a nice word for me until I started travelling to promote the AWESOME programs at Sri Sri University. It has made me realize the power that love has. Sri Sri Ravishankar Ji has built such a powerful network throughout the globe based on human values.
Do you even understand what it freaking means??
Let me help you out 🙂
It means that any nook and corner of the world that you might choose to visit, you have a loving caring family sitting there!! Isn’t that amazing! From Kashmir to Kanyakumar and from any random point A to any random point B!!!
Spirituality makes life so much fun. It’s the most “IN” thing. It helps bring out the love and compassion that is inside each one of us. And you feel utterly grateful when you get to meet such people everyday.
You have to live it to experience it!
All I can say is that I am extremely blessed to have had this experience. Thanks to all the wonderful families who have hosted me in the last two months.Thank you for drenching me in love!!
On my way to KULLU to add another amazing family into my life!
Truly a ONE WORLD FAMILY!!
Vasudeva Kutumbhakam!!

Modi – A Tyrant or A Messiah?

narendra_modi--621x414--621x414

Modi is a Tyrant!

Modi is a Mass Murderer!

Modi is Communal!

Modi is Blah Blah Blah Blah and Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

I am glad that these rumors have finally taken a back seat!! Much has been said about Modi pre-elections, much is being said and much will be said!! The questions have changed though.

Will he live up to the expectations of the Common Man?

Is Modi the Indian version of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther Jr.?

I do not have the answers to any of these questions. What I do know is that he has a track record that is unlike any other politician in the country. Just visit Gujarat and if you can’t, just go to the closest Gujarati house in your neighborhood and start the topic “Modi”. After that you can  lean back, eat your popcorn(oops!! thepla) and listen to them go on for about 2-3 hours. Has Modi paid all these people to say good things about him? After the media feeding stories of his incompetence day, night, left ,right and center, what is it about him that makes people go Crazy??  If he is a tyrant why do soooooo many people go NaMo NaMo?? After all, India is the biggest democracy!!

The answer is pretty simple – HOPE!!

Millions like me see HOPE in him! A Hope for a better India. A Hope to restore the lost glory of Bharat Mata. A Hope for a safe society where everyone’s mother’s ,daughter’s and sister’s can roam around freely at any time. A Hope to have ample growth opportunities. A Hope for a corruption free society. A Hope to bring the value system back to our country. A Hope for every Indian to stand in front of the whole world with pride. A Hope for almost everything!!!

And it is this HOPE that makes millions go NaMo NaMo NaMo NaMo!!

Narendra Modi makes me feel like my country has finally come into able hands. I connect with him. I feel that he wants this country to prosper. He makes me want to contribute. I feel like I have become the PM of the country!

When he says “ Bharat Mata Ki Jai” I feel that raw energy running in every cell of my body. With Modi it’s not India, it’s Bharat Mata. A mother! I have always loved my country but there hasn’t been a single politician who has instilled such patriotism in me. It is indeed a blessing to have a politician like Narendra Modi in India. From a tea seller to the Prime Minister of the Biggest Democracy!! You and I can debate on whether he is good for the nation or not, but what makes me happy is that this debate doesn’t seem to be of importance to Mr Modi. He will keep working the way he has. I have a feeling that Ache Din finally Aa Gaye Hain. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi and with the blessings and prayers of many Indians like me, may my precious Bharat Mata grow leaps and bounds in every way possible.

Bharat Mata Ki Jai!!

Bharat Mata Ki Jai!!

Vande Mataram!!

Vande Mataram!!
